We’ve had Norwegian power-poppers Spielbergs ‘Distant Star’ EP on repeat since it was released back in April so we’re delighted to hear the news that their debut album ‘This is Not the End’ is on its way via By the Time It Gets Dark Records in early 2019 (1 February) – and new single ‘4am’ has made us even more excited.
Opening with a blast of Christian Løvhaug’s ferocious drums and distorted Beach Slang garage rock guitar, the song finds Mads Baklien recalling fond childhood memories and revealing how ‘when I was young, I was never anxious’ before going on to explain how in adulthood he’s a different person who doesn’t think he can go back to the way things were, ‘when the sun was shining’. Amidst walls of feedback and intense, emotive noise, Mads then states ‘I can never go down to the beaches’ and opens up his heart about shutting himself off (‘I put myself away’; ‘4am I feel like giving up’) before the three-and-a-half-minute song ends with a potent Replacements-esque breakdown and build-up.
Pre-order the album on CD, limited transparent yellow vinyl and DL here.
