Celebrate the End of Summer at the Shedd Aquarium

What do jazz music, cocktails, and stingrays have in common?

Not a ton. But you can find them all at Jazzin’ at the Shedd! The Shedd Aquarium hosts a night of live jazz music Wednesday evenings throughout the summer. From 5 – 10 pm, jazz music replaces the typical daytime crowds as you are able to leisurely roam through the aquarium and visit the exhibits.

The event goes until 10pm, but the exhibits close periodically, starting around 6:45pm. Visit those first, then make your way out to the patio for more jazz and a great view of Navy Pier’s fireworks beginning at 9:30pm.

Arguably, the best part of the night is heading outside. Food and drinks are available for purchase, but hurry out there if you want an outdoor table because seats fill up fast. The music continues and you can to enjoy the two outdoor patios and skyline views.

Admission for the night is $20 if purchased the day of or $18 if purchased in advance. For an extra $3, you can also pet a stingray in the Stingray Touch exhibit. Overall, it’s a great deal for visiting the Shedd, as an adult day pass runs around $40. The event goes on, rain or shine, and is moved entirely indoors in case of bad weather.

September 7, 2016, Pamela Fernandez and Thomas Gunther’s Spicy Jazz Adventure, Bob Davis Trio, and Petra VanNuis will provide the musical entertainment. Don’t miss your last chance of 2016 to attend Jazzin’ at the Shedd on September 14, 2016. Detour, Gina Gibson Trio, and Petra VanNuis will all be performing.
