Spellling, Bay Area-based artist Chrystia Cabral’s all-encompassing project, has shared new single ‘Little Deer’ ahead of the release of new album ‘The Turning Wheel’ via Sacred Bones on 25 June. Chrystia has self-produced and orchestrated the album – which features an ensemble of 31 collaborating musicians.
Inspired by Frida Kahlo’s painting ‘Wounded Deer’, ‘Little Deer’ features 17 different acoustic instruments that together conjure up a whimsical, otherworldy orchestral feel with chamber pop melodies throughout. Chrystia says the song ‘accomplishes this strong impression of theater I was striving for with the album as a whole’ as it covers powerful and important concepts like karma, reincarnation and the cycle of life in a breezy and exhilarating sing-along style.
