Good
Morning…. Today is Nov 14th –
”Children’s Day” Sure many of us start our day with a search on ‘google’ – I
did today too … and was happy to see this google doodle.
Children's Day is
recognized on various days in many places around the world, to honor children
globally. In modern day culture there
are too may ‘Days’ – still this one has been in vogue for long….. In India, Children's Day coincides with the
birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru (November 14, 1889 - May 27, 1964),
our first Prime Minister. This celebration commemorates Jawaharlal
Nehru for his affection towards children and faith that education of children
could propel the country's progress.
As you would know, Google
puts special doodles marking special occasions and days. Google doodles on homepage of the search
engine has made it more fun and enjoyable for the users and nobody ever
anticipated that it would become so popular.
Nowadays, many users excitedly anticipate the release of each new doodle
and some even collect them!
Doodle4Google is an annual
competition held by Google to have children create a logo that will be featured
on the Google homepage. The Theme for 2013 Doodle 4 Google Competition was
Celebrating Indian Women. Gayatri Ketharaman, a 15 year old girl from Pune has been adjudged as the Winner of the
Contest. Her Doodle was titled Sky's The Limit for Indian Women and that is
featured on ‘google home page’ today.
Google India managing director Rajan Anandan said the company received
over 1.5 lakh entries this year. Gayatri, currently a student of class 10 at
the Bishop's Co-Ed School in Pune, has been taking part in the contest for the
last four years. She came close to winning in 2011 when her doodle on 'India's
gift to the world' was among the shortlisted entries. But this year, she
finally succeeded with a doodle that celebrates the Indian woman and her life.
The doodle, which has to
resemble the word Google, starts with a dancing woman who is arched to
represent the grace and feminine side of Indian women. According to her, “Each
letter of my doodle depicts a trait of the Indian Women. In place of two Os,
Gayatri has used one rupee coin and a symbol for home, representing how Indian
women take care of work as well as home. In place of G, there are earth and
moon, showing that the Indian women are go-getters. In place of L, there is a
woman holding a kid, showing caring nature of Indian women and in place of E,
there is a police cap, which shows that when required Indian women can wear
different hats and can be tough and brave.
Google said that before
deciding the winners, it had selected 12 finalists. All of them have been given
a Chromebook as well as a few other prizes.
Life is beautiful….. but
in modern day World of living on tablets (not the pills ….) and mobiles, some young children are losing the
vision of seeing outside the natural beauty……….
