On the occasion of Prisoner’s Day (September 12), 417 detainees have been released under a special amnesty. This has been granted according to the powers assigned to the President by Article 34 of the Constitution.
Among the freed inmates are four women and the Prison Department states that among these 417 inmates, 252 inmates are those who could not pay their court imposed fines.
