Soul II Soul Singer Melissa Bell Has Passed Away She Was 53

Soul II Soul singer Melissa Bell passed away on Monday, after a nine-year battle with kidney failure, which was brought on by diabetes, her daughter X Factor winner, Alexandra Burke has confirmed.

 ‘It is with the heaviest and saddest of hearts that the family inform you our beautiful, funny and loving mum, Melissa Bell has passed away.

‘Our beautiful mother gained her wings on Monday 28th of August 2017, a day that has changed our lives forever. 

‘We will never forget her unconditional love, support, charisma, strength and courage throughout her life. 

‘We are eternally proud and thankful to call her our mommy.

‘We would be grateful if you could respect our privacy at this difficult time.’  

Melissa Bell joined British group Soul II Soul in 1993 and sang on the track ‘Wish’ which appeared on their greatest hits album.

She continued to record and tour with the group through until 1995 when she left to pursue a solo career. The singer went on to release four singles in 1997 – Rumbled Sex, Surrender, Mixed Up, and Nothing Gonna Stop Me Now, before forming a new group, Soul Explosion, in 1999.
