Song of The Week (SOTW) is quickly becoming Music Monday, isn’t it? Perhaps I will make a change to this segment of my blog in the future. As of now, I will stick with calling it Song of the Week. Happy Monday, everyone!

Today marks the day I start my final fall semester at American University. Can you believe it? I sure can’t haha. I remember when I began at AU. I swore the finish line was so far out of reach. Yet, here I am with only a few courses left of my graduate degree!

I decided that a happy-go-lucky song (that is on my road trip playlist) was a MUST for today. How could I not celebrate an exciting moment with fun music, right? With that being said, this week’s song is “I Really Want It” by A Great Big World.

Not only is this song pretty upbeat, but I love the lyrics. Music that encourages love, not giving up, and going for what you want is music I can ALWAYS get down with, especially on the first day of school. You may recognize this musical duo from the song, “Say Something,” with Christina Aguilera. Personally, I like them on their own.

I read a Huffington Post article about these guys (Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino) a year or so ago and the song, “I Really Want It” was highlighted. Of course, I fell in love with the duo and listened to more of their music. They are a talented pair who create some great tunes. I recommend checking them out, for sure.

The Huff Post article touches on some background about this song, so I thought it would be a great addition to the blog, today. The guys are quoted saying, “We had recently quit our day jobs and were ‘full-time’ musicians and writers for the first time. We were stepping into a new role in life and really honing in on our dreams. This was us venting and sort of rebelling against the norm and what was expected of us. It was a way to tell ourselves that we could have it all if we wanted it.”

What a great meaning behind the song! Knowing the background, I love it even more. When you are getting ready for your day, be it at work, school, or home… jam out to this song. It will really get you going and encourage you to go after what you want in this life. I sure feel inspired. Have a great week, everyone!
