I received the following in email this morning from the Obama administration:
Something pretty scary is happening in Albuquerque right now.
Voters will cast ballots on November 19th on an initiative that would ban abortions after 20 weeks with virtually zero exceptions.
This is a serious attack on women -- and it's a deliberate attempt by extreme interest groups to test their latest anti-women strategy.
We can't let this initiative succeed in Albuquerque -- add your name right now and fight back against this attack on women's health.
The groups behind the ballot initiative are extremely well funded and -- if they win in Albuquerque -- you can bet they're going to take this approach to cities and states across the country.
OFA is working with a strong coalition of organizations that are dedicated to fighting back on the ground in New Mexico. But we need anyone who cares about this fight to stand in solidarity no matter where they live.
Join in and stand up for women in Albuquerque and anywhere else their rights are threatened:

I have to agree with the premise.
Something scary indeed is happening.
If you think that abortions after twenty weeks ought to be outlawed, if you think the child who's been in the womb for 5 months or more ought to be protected, if you believe in the sacredness of life, particularly as that life nears it's third trimester, this President thinks you're waging a war against women.
That's not only scary but radical and ridiculously extreme.
It'd be great if those supporting Ms. Lambe's argument would think through what would have to happen at 20 weeks or beyond should an abortion become the mother's chosen option.
There are three basic methods for aborting a 20-week fetus:
- Instillation, which involves taking out some amniotic fluid and replacing it with something to kill the fetus and/or trigger labor. This technique has fallen out of favor but is still used sometimes for reasons that elude me. The most popular chemical for this kind of abortion was hypertonic saline. You can see the results of a 21-week saline abortion here. The red skin is from the corrosive action of the salt solution. Abortion workers dubbed these fetuses "candy-apple babies" because of the bright red color.
- The most popular method is D&E, for "dilation and evacuation". This involves reaching in with forceps and dismembering the fetus. You can read Leroy Carhart's testimony about how he does these abortions. You can look at this medical illustration of the technique used on a 23-week fetus. There's really little difference between a 20-week fetus and a 23-week fetus, so this illustration is accurate but for the size of the fetal parts. Here is a photo of the head of a slightly older fetus being removed with the D&E method.
- D&X or "Partial Birth Abortion" pulls the fetus out whole until only the head remains in the uterus. The doctor then stabs the baby in the base of the skull and suctions his brains out. This leaves a presentable fetus to show the mother, provided you stuff the head with cotton balls or something first. I can't find a photo of the final result, but here is a collection of photos showing a 22-week fetus being removed whole, evidently vaginally. So this is similar but the fetus is slightly larger and his head isn't collapsed.
I'll confess that I didn't click on any of the aftermath links. I don't have the stomach for it, neither do I want to feed the disdain I have for this President or his minions.
But some ought to click on them, some ought to also read about the risks that later term abortions bring to the mother. Particularly those who truly believe that a war against women is being waged by those in opposition.
The real war being waged is against the most innocent amongst us, by this President and those who think like him.
It's wicked. It's evil. And the fact that there are those attempting to paint themselves as anything but extreme while supporting these deeds is insidiously sinister.
Something pretty scary is indeed happening.
Made scarier by the fact that Obama and his ilk are fooling people into thinking that opposing that scariness is scary. Scarier still that they're finding success in the attempt.
Lord help the blind see, help pierce the darkness that envelops this issue, help us understand the actual war being waged.
Sooner Lord, not later.
