With Easter under our belt, Harvey and I have been upping the game with our date nights. What is it about the winter that just makes you hibernate for weeks on end?! The intermittent sunshine has certainly piqued our inspiration for fun things to do together, especially as we don’t yet live together.
Picnic Afternoons
An easy and long-standing date tradition is the humble picnic. Harvey and I like to prepare sandwiches, snacks, little sweet treats, some fizzy Vimto and pick-and-mix sweets, pack them in our backpacks and head on to a park of choice. It’s a simple date idea and visiting new parks gives you plenty of time to wile away the scenery over lengthy conversations about almost nothing at all. We also have a faithful picnic blanket and plastic tableware set from
Flying Tiger that comes with us almost everywhere!
Homemade Outdoor Cinema
A slightly more outlandish option, creating an outdoor cinema takes a little more effort but is so worth the extra legwork. You’ll need a projector and a screen (not a bedsheets), but these can easily be
hired. Then, bundle up a tonne of old cushions and duvets on the lawn or on deckchairs, make some homemade popcorn with cinnamon sugar… and cosy up under the stars. Hot water bottles very much a necessity in this mild spring!
Recreate Your First Date
With the refreshing spring season comes a golden opportunity to step back and recreate your first date. New beginnings or something like that. Not only is it nostalgic and sickeningly sweet, you already know that it went pretty damn well and this time round, there’ll be no awkward ‘will they kiss me, won’t they?’ moments.
At-Home Tourists
Try switching your phone off (or at least curb the data) and becoming an at-home tourist for a day. Whether it’s literally in your hometown or for a city staycation in the country, dress up all lovely as if you were on holiday - don’t tell me you don’t do this when on holiday! - and spend a day together holding hands, taking sickly sweet photos, eating street food and admiring random monuments and sights. If you still can, catch the apple blossoms all around England!
Airbnb Weekend
If you’re pining for a holiday but can’t figure out how to budget that in, try renting an Airbnb for a weekend. Some of them are incredibly well-priced and it’ll just cost you that, plus a car or train ride there. A faux holiday and new place to explore, all on your own. We’ve been browsing Bristol and Brighton, lately!
