The above statement is from a Republican -- Bruce Bartlett, Deputy Assistant Treasury Secretary for Economic Policy in the administration of George W. Bush. I'm sure there are a lot of teabaggers out there that will consider Mr. Bartlett a turncoat for stating the obvious, but all he has done is tell the truth. If low taxes really created jobs then we would have jobs being created all over the country, because taxes have never been lower (even in good economic times when a lot of jobs were being created). But that isn't happening, and the reason it isn't happening is because taxes have nothing to do with job creation. It is the demand for goods and services that creates jobs, regardless of whether taxes are low or high.It's good to see that there is at least one Republican who can depart from ideology long enough to tell the truth. Taxes on the rich must be raised, at least to the levels they were at during the Clinton administration (when millions of jobs were created).
