Within the next few weeks we will be providing insightful and thought provoking discussions as we dig more into the realm of Solar Energy and the technology that supports it existence. These educational posts will be part of our "Fact Finding Series" as we demystify and make available both micro and macro scales the logic behind a Solar Photo voltaic (PV) installation.
The main topic each blog post covers will take us from the concept of a photo-voltaic cell to the post-installation of a system and will comprise the following:
- Types of solar panels or solar cells,
- How solar power works,
- How to get or afford Solar in Massachusetts (Residential and Commercial Agreements),
- Types of residential solar Electric Power Systems,
- Types of Residential solar installations,
- Major Tools and Equipment used during a Solar Photo-Voltaic installation,
- Safety steps and guidelines practiced by Absolute Green Energy corporation during Solar PV installations,
- Maintenance and system reporting post installation.
Although Solar PV technology has been in existence for decades, most of us don't understand it and often shy away from an opportunity to learn because the details may be too technical to understand. It is true that the technology is in fact "technical" in nature and evolves rather quickly but one doesn't need to be a certified "geek" to get it. What we will try to do in this fact finding mission is to produce a "Solar PV guide for Dummies" so as to make understandable the necessary ideas behind this technology.
Solar Energy technology is an alternative form of producing electricity without the usual direct environmentally destructive by-products such as Carbon-dioxide and others that choke the atmosphere and deplete the ozone layer. To explain briefly -- the ozone layer is an approximately 10KM layer of gas that exists in our earths atmosphere and helps protect us from extra Ultra Violet light or UV rays from the sun. To put this in perspective, a lot of some cases of skin cancer that exist today have been attributed to ozone depletion. This is a gradual but severe phenomenon that needs to be redressed and implementing solar technology along side adopting sustainable behavior may just be one of the many ways to curb this plight. The good thing to note is that most environments on the earth's surface have some form of exposure to sunlight that can be harnessed for energy.
