Sofia Coppola will adapt the novel "The Beautiful Weddings" by Edith Wharton as a mini-series for the Apple TV + streaming platform.

Sofia coppola is going take your first steps in the world of series by adapting Beautiful Weddings by American novelist Edith Wharton for Apple. According to Variety, she will write and direct the episodes of this mini-series, which will tell the story of Undine Spragg, an ambitious young girl from the Midwest who tries to climb the social ladder in New York at the beginning of the 20th century.

The novel, titled The Custom of the Country in its original version, appeared in 1913, but was not published for the first time in France until 1964. "Undine Spragg is my favorite literary anti-heroine and I'm delighted to bring it to the screen for the first time" said Coppola. The director of Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation and Marie-Antoinette thus continues to develop her relations with Apple TV +, which must also program her film On the Rocks, with Bill Murray and Rashida Jones and which follows a young mother who reconnects with her extravagant father playboy and finds herself embarked on an adventure through New York.

The Custom of the Country will be Sofia Coppola's first series, but the director has already worked for television several times. In particular, she staged several advertisements for major brands, music videos and a Christmas TV movie for Netflix in 2015, A Very Murray Christmas.
