If you still think WeChat is just about messaging, you’re vastly underestimating the platform, which now counts more than 650 million users. Weixin, as it’s known in China, is the most dominant social network in the People’s Republic, where Facebook, Instagram and many other apps are blocked. WeChat is where you go to pay bills, hail rides, play casual games, browse news, send friends money, and much more. Today, there are millions of “official accounts” on the platform which act as mini apps within the app, enabling users to interact with brands, services and even celebrities. Looking at what WeChat is to China, you can’t help but think this is what Facebook wants to be to the world.

Afterlight has a lot in common with Darkroom—it’s sort of like Instagram on steroids. In addition to a huge amount of filters and textures, you can also dive deeper into custom editing and add unique frames to your photos.

Instagram has proven itself a powerful platform for marketers to reach their customers and prospects through sharing pictures and brief messages. According to a study by Simply Measured, 71% of the world’s largest brands are now using Instagram as a marketing channel.[67] For companies, Instagram can be used as a tool to connect and communicate with current and potential customers. The company can present a more personal picture of their brand, and by doing so the company conveys a better and true picture of itself. The idea of Instagram pictures lies on on-the-go, a sense that the event is happening right now, and that adds another layer to the personal and accurate picture of the company. In fact, Thomas Rankin, co-founder and CEO of the program Dash Hudson, stated that when he approves a blogger’s Instagram post before it is posted on the behalf of a brand his company represents, his only negative feedback is if it looks too posed. “It’s not an editorial photo,” he explained, “We’re not trying to be a magazine. We’re trying to create a moment.”[66] Another option Instagram provides the opportunity for companies to reflect a true picture of the brandfrom the perspective of the customers, for instance, using the user-generated contents thought the hashtags encouragement.[68] Other than the filters and hashtags functions, the Instagram’s 15-second videos and the recently added ability to send private messages between users have opened new opportunities for brands to connect with customers in a new extent, further promoting effective marketing on Instagram.

Another advantage of digital marketing is that consumers are exposed to the brand and the product that is being advertised directly. To clarify the advertisement is easy to access as well it can be accessed any time any place.[52]

Currently the most popular instant messaging provider worldwide, WhatsApp is a cross-platform app that uses your internet connection or data plan to send and receive messages. Users can send messages to individuals or groups using text, photos, videos and even voice messages. Unlike Kik and other popular messaging apps, WhatsApp uses your phone number rather than usernames or pins (despite being an alternative to SMS). Users can allow WhatsApp to connect to their phone’s address book so that their contacts can be seamlessly transferred to the app. The app also offers a few customizable features like profiles, wallpapers and notification sounds. Timehop’s nostalgia-triggering app launched on iOS in 2012 and on Android in 2014. It pulls archives from your accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and more to show you what happened on that same day in previous years. Thanks to hashtags like #TBT and #FBF, Timehop had no problem gaining popularity. In fact, it was such a winning concept that Facebook joined in on the blast-from-the-past movement and introduced its “On This Day” feature. Timehop responded with an April Fools’ joke by announcing the fake app Timebook, calling Facebook out for essentially stealing its idea. The app design is relatively simple, but it hasn’t changed much over the years. If Timehop wants to keep up with the times, it’ll have to find new ways to keep users engaged.

Digital marketing is a term that has been around for quite awhile but hasn’t been very well defined, encompassing things like banner advertising, search engine optimization (SEO) and pay per click. Yet, this is too narrow of a definition. What about email, RSS, voice broadcast, fax broadcast, blogging, podcasting, video streams, wireless text messaging, and instant messaging? You get the idea.

This is so well written Kevan! i love how you guys integrate your own graphics, which could act as stand alone content pieces for social postings to this post! I definitely agree that voice and tone and considering the “mindset divide” for various channels is so important!

We are going to solve it by identifying the Key attributes of a user that we show in our application for each activity. If we visually show a post in our application and show just the creator’s name and picture, why store all of the user’s data in the “createdBy” attribute? If for each comment we just show the user’s picture, we don’t really need the rest of his information. That’s where something I call the “Ladder pattern” comes into play.

Social media presence is a necessity for many customer-driven enterprises as it gives the impression of a more immediate connection between the customer and the seller. Moreover, campaigns spread through social media are believed to have more resonance because they are usually discovered through links shared by trusted sources. The rich data available through social media can allow advertisers to target their message to very specific audiences, providing the potential for better results.

My daughter went on Omegle after seeing it used on a YouTube video – the video showed the chat was safe- a tween talking to two young kids. My daughter’s experience was much worse. Despite the numerous warnings on the initial page -she went right in and started to find people to chat with. She smartly had her camera off -but found no one would chat with her. So she turned it on – showing only below her neck. Sure enough – someone started chatting to her. He (using typing only) asked her to stand up and turn around – she did that – and he promptly threatened her -” I have taken a photo of your butt (she was fully clothed) and your face (not sure if that was possible) and I will put them onto social media and will embarrass you if you don’t do what I say…” she promptly shut it down and came down in tears. We alerted the local police and reported the incident -which they fully supported. This is NOT a site for anyone but ADULTS. Despite many warnings and much education about this type of site – my daughter ignored everything for the chance of chatting and feeling that ‘she belonged and was popular’. Such a hard thing to parent around.

Could be. Kids think of their devices as their private property — as personal as a diary — so uninstalling his apps may backfire. Depending on his phone, you might be able to restrict app downloads so he can’t download new apps. Keep talking about your expectations for responsible use and after he demonstrates that he can follow your rules, he could earn back privileges.

Twitter can be used to enhance communication building and critical thinking. Domizi (2013) utilized Twitter in a graduate seminar requiring students to post weekly tweets to extend classroom discussions. Students reportedly used Twitter to connect with content and other students. Additionally, students found it “to be useful professionally and personally”.[94] Junco, Heibergert, and Loken (2011) completed a study of 132 students to examine the link between social media and student engagement and social media and grades. They divided the students into two groups, one used Twitter and the other did not. Twitter was used to discuss material, organize study groups, post class announcements, and with classmates. Junco and his colleagues (2011) found that the students in the Twitter group had higher GPAs and greater engagement scores than the control group.[232]

Too many passwords, too little time. This app creates a secure password for your various accounts and them remembers them so you don’t have to. Anyone who’s kept a pad of paper with their passwords on it needs to switch, especially if you’re about to go and download a veritable ton of apps.

In recent years, social media personalities (also known as digital influencers) have been employed by marketers to promote products online. Research shows that digital influencer endorsements seem to be successfully targeting social media users,[247] especially younger consumers who have grown up in the digital age.[248] Celebrities with large social media followings, such as Kylie Jenner, regularly endorse products to their followers on their social media pages.[249] This practice has become controversial in recent years, as some feel that the endorsements are too implicit, and consumers may not realize that a celebrity’s post has been paid for or sponsored by a corporate entity. This has led to some broadcasting authorities imposing regulations on product endorsement by digital celebrities in order to make the endorsements more explicit.[250][251]
