Mobile social media refers to the use of social media on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. This is a group of mobile marketing applications that allow the creation, exchange and circulation of user-generated content.[24] Due to the fact that mobile social media run on mobile devices, they differ from traditional social media by incorporating new factors such as the current location of the user (location-sensitivity) or the time delay between sending and receiving messages (time-sensitivity). According to Andreas Kaplan, mobile social media applications can be differentiated among four types:[24]
Businesses focused on expanding their reach to more customers will want to pay attention to the increase in volume of visitors, as well as the quality of those interactions. Traditional measures of volume include number of visitors to a page and number of emails collected, while time spent on page and click-through to other pages/ photos are good indicators for engagement.
After watching Mr. Vaynerchuk deliver a few variations of his go-to lecture, you can see the appeal. He starts with his origin story — born in Belarus, built Wine Library TV, signed to the same talent agency as Oprah — to establish credibility. Then he criticizes a vast majority of social media marketing, a message delivered with head-scratchers like “it’s not the content, it’s the context,” and “everybody cares about hunting, what nets out is really farming.” His tone slips quickly back and forth from comic to cautionary, and his patter is laced with obscenities, which is both a way to get laughs and to establish intimacy. He speaks without notes and caroms from one topic to another.
Teens can share personal information, sometimes by accident. Teens often broadcast from their bedrooms, which often have personal information visible, and they sometimes will share a phone number or an email address with viewers, not knowing who’s really watching.
Social networking websites are based on building virtual communities that allow consumers to express their needs, wants and values, online. Social media marketing then connects these consumers and audiences to businesses that share the same needs, wants, and values. Through social networking sites, companies can keep in touch with individual followers. This personal interaction can instill a feeling of loyalty into followers and potential customers. Also, by choosing whom to follow on these sites, products can reach a very narrow target audience.[7] Social networking sites also include much information about what products and services prospective clients might be interested in. Through the use of new semantic analysis technologies, marketers can detect buying signals, such as content shared by people and questions posted online. An understanding of buying signals can help sales people target relevant prospects and marketers run micro-targeted campaigns.
For a business to succeed on Facebook, it’s about connecting with a community that engages with your content. Just like in the offline world, if your product, service or idea is something people like and want to connect with, they will want to do the same on Facebook. Self-image manipulation: What a user posts about themselves on social media only represents a small portion of their life. While followers may see someone who’s happy and living it up via their posts on social media in such a way that makes them feel boring or inadequate by comparison, the truth is that users have the power to completely control what parts they do and don’t want to broadcast on social media to manipulate their own self-image.
Video advertising – This type of advertising in terms of digital/online means are advertisements that play on online videos e.g. YouTube videos. This type of marketing has seen an increase in popularity over time.[46] Online Video Advertising usually consists of three types: Pre-Roll advertisements which play before the video is watched, Mid-Roll advertisements which play during the video, or Post-Roll advertisements which play after the video is watched.[47] Post-roll advertisements were shown to have better brand recognition in relation to the other types, where-as “ad-context congruity/incongruity plays an important role in reinforcing ad memorability”.[46] Due to selective attention from viewers, there is the likelihood that the message may not be received.[48] The main advantage of video advertising is that it disrupts the viewing experience of the video and therefore there is a difficulty in attempting to avoid them. How a consumer interacts with online video advertising can come down to three stages: Pre attention, attention, and behavioural decision.[49] These online advertisements give the brand/business options and choices. These consist of length, position, adjacent video content which all directly affect the effectiveness of the produced advertisement time,[46] therefore manipulating these variables will yield different results. Length of the advertisement has shown to affect memorability where-as longer duration resulted in increased brand recognition.[46] This type of advertising, due to its nature of interruption of the viewer, it is likely that the consumer may feel as if their experience is being interrupted or invaded, creating negative perception of the brand.[46] These advertisements are also available to be shared by the viewers, adding to the attractiveness of this platform. Sharing these videos can be equated to the online version of word by mouth marketing, extending number of people reached.[50] Sharing videos creates six different outcomes: these being “pleasure, affection, inclusion, escape, relaxation, and control”.[46] As well, videos that have entertainment value are more likely to be shared, yet pleasure is the strongest motivator to pass videos on. Creating a ‘viral’ trend from mass amount of a brands advertisement can maximize the outcome of an online video advert whether it be positive or a negative outcome.
Security and privacy are two areas social media marketers can’t cut corners with. Whether you’re discussing clients or confidential business information, you want to ensure your messages are protected.
Data-driven advertising: Users generate a lot of data in every step they take on the path of customer journey and Brands can now use that data to activate their known audience with data-driven programmatic media buying. Without exposing customers’ privacy, users’ Data can be collected from digital channels (e.g.: when customer visits a website, reads an e-mail, or launches and interact with brand’s mobile app), brands can also collect data from real world customer interactions, such as brick and mortar stores visits and from CRM and Sales engines datasets. Also known as People-based marketing or addressable media, Data-driven advertising is empowering brands to find their loyal customers in their audience and deliver in real time a much more personal communication, highly relevant to each customers’ moment and actions.[33]
Groups: This block represents the extent to which users can form communities and sub-communities of people with similar backgrounds, demographics or interests. The more ‘social’ a network becomes, the wider the group of friends, followers, and contacts can be developed.[4] Some Facebook users develop a list of friends that includes people from all over the world.

Honestly, there’s good and bad in anything the world throws at us. And Social Media is no exception. First of all, most social media (including Facebook) users have to be at least 13 to even sign up so there’s no reason for “tweens” to be on them at all. That being said I’ve noticed that tweens that ignore the rules aren’t very familiar with what’s not acceptable. Most social media platforms are supposed to be only available for 13+ because the Internet is in fact a scary place and most children don’t know how to use the Internet responsibly until their 13 or 14. On another note, I think it’s important that parents are aware of what goes on on social media, however, unless you’re child is under the age of 14 it’s not acceptable to monitor everything and creep on their page and check their phone because even though you do have the right to know what’s going on, your child is now a teenager, their probably in high school and they need “privacy”. Always checking what their doing will more than likely result in you losing their trust because Parents, you don’t need to know every single thing. If you’re child is old enough to have a their own phone and almost finished with school, their old enough to have a private life. And I will be blunt when I say this, if you monitor your teenagers social media they will do at least one of the following: block you, make their account private, or make a new account that you won’t find. And they won’t do it because they’re hiding something, they’ll do it because they need space. Social Media is only dangerous when people don’t know how to use it and regardless of how hard parents try to ” protect” their children, it’s ultimately up to the child to protect themselves. Their is a block button and privacy settings for a reason. Only the user can control it. And a tip for parents: not letting your child use social media when they ask to will only make them ignorant to it. This generation… My generation and the generation after me, we’re growing up in the digital age and if you don’t let your kid learn now it’s going to take a while for them to get caught up later. Social Media is always changing and it’s just part of our culture now. It’s not dangerous unless you let it be.

When you’re looking for a new job, numbers matter, so take time to build your network. But be sure to do it in a smart way: Blasting invitations at complete strangers in the hopes of connecting with either them or people they are connected with is not a good strategy. Instead, look for legitimate connections you have with people — your alma mater, for example — and reach out with an invitation to connect that includes a personal note.
Having social media in the classroom has been a controversial topic in the 2010s. Many parents and educators have been fearful of the repercussions of having social media in the classroom.[219] There are concerns that social media tools can be misused for cyberbullying or sharing inappropriate content. As result, cell phones have been banned from some classrooms, and some schools have blocked many popular social media websites. However, despite apprehensions, students in industrialized countries are (or will be) active social media users. As a result, many schools have realized that they need to loosen restrictions, teach digital citizenship skills, and even incorporate these tools into classrooms. The Peel District School Board (PDSB) in Ontario is one of many school boards that has begun to accept the use of social media in the classroom. In 2013, the PDSB introduced a “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) policy and have unblocked many social media sites.[220] Fewkes and McCabe (2012) have researched the benefits of using Facebook in the classroom.[221] Some schools permit students to use smartphones or tablet computers in class, as long as the students are using these devices for academic purposes, such as doing research.
