Eight and a half years ago my birthday present from my parents was a washer and dryer. Today I'm breaking up the set. My very first washer/dryer that I was so elated to get for my 25th birthday. I couldn't believe then that I was excited to have appliances which meant work as a birthday present. And today I can't believe that I am sad to say so long farewell to my washing machine. It's a sad sad day.
Maybe we should bury it in the front yard.
So my washing machine has been giving me problems for some time now. I haven't had the money to do anything about it and I was always able to get it up and running again. All that was until the other night when I was doing diaper laundry. As it has been doing lately it did not go through the spin cycle correctly. I tried to get the load balanced and jiggle the bin as I have been doing for months, but nothing. The diapers were dripping wet and now I had to individually ring out each one in the washer. Not the time to do this when you were short on time, but I didn't have a choice because I couldn't get the machine to do it.
Now that I'm thinking back on the years with my washing machine I'm sad. The lice battle we had in our house, the numerous stomach bugs, wet beds, bloody nose sheets, grass stains, caked on dirt, numerous different food spills, and the past 10 months of pee and poop diapers it has washed. It has served me well. It has served my family well. Perhaps it needs to be honored in the way my son's matchbox car was with a funeral in the front yard and burial for the tragic demise of my washer.
That's not happening!
I don't think the delivery people from Lowes will look too thrilled if I said I want you to take this out of my basement and put it in this hole and say a few words. Nope, they are likely going to be in and out of here in less than 20 minutes this afternoon. They probably won't understand the attachment I have to this appliance. I really do hate to see it go, but we need something that is going to handle the test I put it to.
So yes I'm cheating on my current washer!
While I love the good old washer and will forever be grateful for how much it has made my life easier over the years I have begun a love afair with my new washer. It is 3.6 cubic feet! It has a stainless steel tub! It has a soak setting! Do you know how great that word is to a woman who cloth diapers? A soak setting is going to be perfect for cloth diapers. Yes, I love the new washer already! So I hate to see the old go, but can't wait for the new to come. And no need to worry I have plenty of laundry to really put it all to the test too. Hopefully he handles the work load as well as the old one did for so long. I have to wait all the way until between 2:30 and 4:30! That's a terribly long wait for me.
So long old washer hello new washer.
Have you ever had strange attachments to your appliances? Where you sad to have to say goodbye?
