Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Ampara District Parliamentarian Wimalaweera Dissanayake said that he would be selecting the candidates from the Ampara District for the upcoming Local Government Elections from today (22) onwards.
Speaking to the media at the Nelum Mawatha party headquarters yesterday, he said the SLPP is not afraid of elections and therefore, it is getting ready for the upcoming elections.
“At the previous Local Government Elections, our party secured a great victory defeating the oldest political parties in the country. If someone says that we are postponing elections, it is not true,” he said.
The Parliamentarian also said that when the previous government postponed the Provincial Council Elections, the JVP also remained silent on that decision. “Now we ask those political parties which are demanding an election if they are ready for the elections.”
“The economy of the country has improved to some extent at present compared to the previous period. But, the Opposition behaves as they cannot see it. They tell the public that the Government is doing nothing to build up the economy,” the MP said.
