Following shows with Alex G and praise from Stereogum, KEXP and The Fader, Slow Pulp have announced details of their debut album ‘Moveys’ (out on 9 October via Winspear) and shared lead single ‘Idaho’.
With a focus on personal challenges (both physical and mental), the record was written following vocalist and guitarist Emily Massey’s diagnosis with both Lyme disease and chronic mono. It was finished during the pandemic as Emily had to return home to look after her parents following their involvement in a severe car crash.
‘Idaho’ was written during a bout of tour confusion when guitarist Henry Stoehr mixed up the state the band were playing in and touches upon themes of self-acceptance and moving on: ‘I’ll try to be without, sleep on your shoulder for now’; ‘I don’t think I can win’. The song has an emotive, swaying intro that combines elements of Great Grandpa’s emo-infused chamber pop with the more traditional storytelling of Jeff Tweedy.
