Story: Slingshot starts when astronaut John (Affleck) wakes from his hypersleep with the rest of the crew, Captain Franks (Fishburne) and Nash (Capone). They are preparing to get close to Jupiter and use its gravitational pull to reach Titan. However, John witnesses an unusual event, and the side effects of the mission start to take over.
Captain Franks and Nash try to support him, but only end up pulling him in different directions. John finds his mind spiralling out of control, as he is torn between whether to complete the mission or abandon the mission.
Verdict on Slingshot
Slingshot is a sci-fi thriller about an astronaut on a long-term mission who starts questioning his mind. He gets support from the other two astronauts but finds himself unsure of what is real or not. His decision will decide how the mission unfolds.
This movie takes us on a dangerous mission in space and plays into the paranoia that can consume someone. One astronaut can’t control what he sees and is unsure where the mission is taking him. It is a movie designed to spin reality and leave us questioning everything we see. The idea is interesting and it is one we have seen similar before. It struggles to have the impact it wants, leaving us without enough to build upon. The mission doesn’t feel as important and we are waiting for a twist to occur. It doesn’t create enough paranoia and ends up leaving us wanting more.
