Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) leader, former President Maithripala Sirisena says the SLFP will refrain from voting for a Presidential candidate on July 20 due to the lack of programme by the candidates to steer the country out of the current crisis.

Addressing a media briefing in Colombo on Saturday, the SLFP leader said his Party has not decided to present a candidate for the election of a President in parliament as yet.

“If the number of candidates, who have come forward cannot discuss and reach a consensus for the sake of the country and the people, the SLFP will not support any candidate.”We clearly will not vote for anyone” Sirisena said.

He said the candidates should come up with a programme that can solve the issues related to the shortage of food and essential commodities like fuel, gas and medicines and end the suffering of the people.

The former President said that if none of the candidates present a viable programme to address the issues faced by the country and the people, the SLFP will refrain from voting for a President on July 20.
