According to veteran Hollywood columnist Roger Friedman, Star Wars: Episode VII will be set some time in the future after Return of the Jedi. Luke Skywalker, Han, Leia will be in the movie and they will be older – duh. The interesting news is that, according to him, there won’t be completely different characters but their children as the new main protagonists.
In the SW canon, Luke marries Mara-Jade (ex-Hand of the Emperor and Jedi Master) and has a son named Ben Skywalker and Solos have three children Anakin, Jacen and Jaina.
All of them are strong in the force and they make the backbone of the New Jedi Order formed and trained by the Grand Master Luke Skywalker, along with heroes from different species.
It’s unclear at this point whether we’ll get movie versions of established expanded universe characters or will Lucasfilm, director J.J. Abrams, and screenwriter Michael Arndt invent all new descendants for viewers to follow. I doubt that they will scrap tens of novels, comics and stories so my money is on Ben, Anakin, Jacen and Jaina.
These kids have some really awesome story lines and if this report is true, we may see some of the awesome things they experience over the years, like Yuuzhan Vong and Darth Caedus.
Friedman says that RsD2 and C-3PO will be unchanged. And the three main actors are definitely coming back.
So now, the question is, which young actors will play their kids?
Look, I’m completely down with watching Ben Skywalker kick ass but please no child actors, no gungans and no Twilight love triangles.
