Skincare Essentials for a Daily Sweat Routine

Posted on the 31 March 2019 by Ponderingyogini @PonderingY

If you have a regular fitness routine, whether once, twice weekly, or even a daily sweat routine, you are probably no stranger to having sweat and grime built up on your face on a daily basis. Perspiration is typically good for your skin, as water hydrates, minerals and salt naturally exfoliate, and urea and uric acid can help to combat dry skin.

However, the impurities that sweating flushes out may end up remaining on your skin. When the skin begins to re-absorb them, pH factors change and can lead to irritation and rash. Sweat carries with it the grime of what’s built up in your pores and what’s on your face and can be detrimental when it settles back into the skin.

Given that I teach an average of 4 hours on a daily basis, on top of my own personal yoga practice/fitness routine, my face is covered with lots of sweat and grime on a daily basis. It is with my job that I truly realized the importance of caring for your skin thoroughly.

I am a no-frills girl when it comes to skin care routine. Recently, I have adopted more skincare habits every night before I rest, but my favorite facial products are light, with little to no scent, and most importantly, gets the job done. It helps to cleanse, moisturize, and leaves my skin feeling smooth and supple after a night’s rest.

1. Hada Labo Super Hyaluronic Acid Lotion

I have always been a fan of Hada Labo’s products, even before I had the opportunity to work with them on a campaign about 6 months ago. The lotion also adds as a toner and helps to prep the skin for absorption of other facial products after cleansing. The texture is very light on the skin with no added scent or colorant. This has been my staple in my (very minimal) skincare routine for over 2 years.

2. Biotherm Life Plankton Mask

I received this from the folks at Biotherm Singapore around 3 months ago and was pretty curious as well as skeptical in terms of the benefits of this product. However, I really liked how light the texture of the mask, and it was extremely soothing after applying it on my face, the perfect product to prepare myself for a good night’s rest ahead.

After using this consistently twice a week for the past 3 months, I must say that this has been a great product to help moisturize my face and help my face recover from redness or irritation from the sweat and grime built up from my job and daily fitness routine.

3. Laneige Water Sleeping Pack

I discovered this product when my brother first gifted me a bottle of Laneige Water Sleeping Mask, and since then, it is something that I made sure to purchase whenever my friends (or myself) travel to Korea. It is lightly scented, very light and not sticky in texture, and leaves your face feeling really soft and supple after a night’s rest. I always make sure to apply the water sleeping mask whenever I have a very late night’s sleep, or when I have an important shoot or occasion to attend to the next day. Makeup applies really well after using this mask. I have been using this concurrently with Biotherm’s Life Plankton Mask on an almost-daily basis.

4. Aveda Dry Remedy Daily Moisturising Oil

My hair is naturally dry and extremely susceptible to brittleness and split ends. I really love how it leaves no greasy residue and is not too heavy on the hair. Plus, it has a really light and soothing scent that adds a very nice touch to my nightly routine after taking a nice shower and winding down after a day of working out and teaching. As this is a leave-in moisturizing oil, I would also apply them to the ends of my hair before I head out for yoga.
