The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has unanimously decided to vote against the proclamation of the State of Emergency, the SJB Working Committee announced yesterday (26).
The SJB Working Committee has observed that a State of Emergency is proclaimed by the government with the intention of suppressing the right to express freely, the right to protest, and the right to voice the problems faced by the public in the prevailing crisis.
The House is to take up the proclamation of state of emergency for debate today (27).
The SJB Working Committee has also decided not to work with the government which “is directly and indirectly unleashing state terrorism without providing real solutions to the people’s problems.”
The SJB Working Committee has also decided to support it if a committee system is established in Parliament to find solutions to the pressing problems of the people in the parliamentary democratic system.
These decisions were made by the SJB Working Committee at a meeting held yesterday (26).
