Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Saturday requested Opposition and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa to shed all political differences and extend his support for the sake of people and the country in his endeavour of initiating economic prosperity to the country.
In a letter to the Opposition Leader, the Prime Minister said that since we have to face a number of challenges in the future to develop our Motherland and improve the peoples’ living standards, the sacrifices of all are needed to fulfill these tasks.
The Prime Minister further said his only objective is to run the Government without any political affiliations.
The Prime Minister said he accepted the Premiership at this crucial juncture with the sole objective of working amicably with all political parties and not with a single political party.
He said his initial task is to solve the burning economic issues of the people as early as possible and in order to fulfill this task, the Government has to seek international support.
In response to the Prime Minister’s letter, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said the majority people in the country want a Government which is devoid of the Rajapaksa family. He said even the SJB during the last few days urged the forming of a Government consisting of all political parties represented in Parliament.
“At this juncture we were optimistic that the President had invited you to be the Prime Minister without any consultation with other political parties,” he said.
However, Premadasa said he is willing to extend his support to the Government as a responsible Opposition when seeking solutions to issues related to the well-being of the people and the country.
