Hambantota Police yesterday arrested Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Hambantota Urban Councillor and candidate Anura Shantha in connection with an assault to Samagi Education Trade Union (Samagi Adyapana Sevaka Sangamaya) Deputy Chairman Ramith Gamini.
The Deputy Chairman serves as a teacher at Mahinda Rajapaksa College in Matara. He was attacked on Monday near a shop at Indiminna, Hambantota. He was admitted to the Hambantota Hospital for treatment.The reason for the assault is said to be a dispute between them related to nominations for the Local Government Elections.
The arrested Councillor had been released on a surety bail of Rs.300,000 after producing before the Hambantota Court.
