Sixth Graders Need Your Help

By Pjfaur @peterfaur

machanI’ve written before about donorschoose.org, the website that helps you find teachers who need funding for special projects that can help needy students grow beyond the minimum resources offered in their homes and schools. It’s a great way to make a difference in schools in your neighborhood and community.

Now, I have a friend, Diana Green, who is looking for support for two projects for her sixth graders at William T. Machan School in Phoenix. As she explains:

Seventy-five percent of my students are English Language Learners who are now proficient, but due to limited financial resources, the majority come from homes where their parents are unable to provide much more than the basic living necessities (such as reading-for-pleasure books). They are so enthusiastic about learning and experiencing what school has to offer, but are limited to what they are able to experience in the classroom due to a very limited budget both at home and at school.

Diana is looking for support for two projects, one to enhance reading skills and the other to make algebra more understandable. You can read about each project here.

If you choose to give before Feb. 15, put the word SPARK in the promo code box, and your donation will be doubled. If Diana doesn’t reach her goal, your donation will be returned to you.

This is a great way to support education, and you will know for certain that your money will be used in just the way you intended. You also can learn more about Diana’s projects on Facebook.

Let me know if you decide to do this. It’s a great way to give to kids in your community.
