Sixpoint Brewery 3Beans

The following is a quick review as I travel back to NC

I was able to get my hands on 3Beans while visiting family in upstate NY, an easy distribution location for Brooklyn’s Sixpoint Brewery.

To put it plainly, this beer never shorts itself from it’s premise of combining three beans to make a straight forward and delicious brew.

Romano beans add body, cocoa beans provide subtle sweetness and coffee beans are brewed and then the cooled liquid is added to the beer post-feentation.

What transpires from this is a coffee beer that forgoes the acidic bitterness from using straight beans and is heightened by the chocolate sweetness of cocoa. It is never too sweet like a Young’s Double Chocolate Stout, but the cocoa flavor is unmistakable, boarding on milk chocolate instead of high-cocoa dark chocolate. Again, there is nothing bitter about this beer.

As if that wasn’t enough, vanilla notes in smell and taste are pulled from an aging in oak barrels, putting on another layer that’s easy to detect but takes nothing away.

From start to finish, this beer hits all the right notes, coming off as a boozy mocha or even s’more in your glass.
