Sir Elton John may have a metaverse future

Sir Elton John might be able to keep making music in the metaverse after he stops touring. After his huge “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour ends next July, the 75-year-old music legend will stop performing.

But there is a plan in place to share Elton’s music with future generations over the next five years, and a lot of thought is being put into how Elton might look in a virtual reality (VR) setting.

David Furnish, his husband and manager, told the metaverse’s Music Week magazine, “That’s going to be a big new market for music discovery. “We’re looking at it closely but carefully. Elton’s been a bit like an avatar his entire life, throwing things on and off, changing and moving forward.”

The team behind the “Rocket Man” is already bringing his music to new generations. More than half of his back catalog is bought by people aged 18 to 35. Many of these fans were attracted to Elton’s collaboration with Dua Lipa on “Cold Heart,” which charted in “six different decades.”

“It’s hard to get all the data you want from the streaming companies, but Spotify in particular, 58% of Elton’s music is now consumed by 18-35-year-olds. That is absolutely what we wanted and what we hoped for. It’s why Elton always said he appreciated the opportunity with ‘The Lion King’, it’s why we did something like ‘Gnomeo And Juliet’ 10 years ago, to keep the songs in his catalog alive and introduce them to a new generation.”

He is also working with pop superstar Britney Spears on her comeback song, “Hold Me Closer,” which is a remix of Elton’s hit song “Tiny Dancer” from 1971. Also, a new Disney+ documentary called “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” will be available on the streaming service on November 20, the same day as Elton John’s last show in the U.S. at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

David said, “Disney+ has 138 million users, so you’ll be able to reach a lot of people and mark a big moment for Elton and the industry.” “I don’t think anyone will ever be able to take Elton John’s place.” The story will end when Elton leaves the stage and ends his North American tours.”
