Voice in the AtticTear is the latest single from songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and former opera singer BC Bogey, who performs under the name Voice In The Attic. Bogey’s career has taken an interesting path, and as a result, he has a great deal of varied musical experiences under his belt. During his teens, he was the lead singer of a metal band, and at the age of 23, he studied at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Dusseldorf, Germany. Despite many believing that he would have a successful career in Opera, Bogey wanted to follow a different path.

Tear is a very personal track – it was written in memory of Bogey’s brothers Daniel and Niklas who were tragically killed in an accident when they were aged 6 and 8. Although there are not many lyrics in the song, the content is beautiful, poetic and heartbreaking, and knowing the intent behind them makes them even moreso.

The production on Tear is close to perfection. It is very clear, and there is a warm, rich tone which compliments Bogey’s vocals and instrumentation perfectly. It sounds very organic and natural, something which echoes Bogey’s performance and lyrical content.

Bogey’s understated delivery is incredibly sincere and you can feel the pain in his performance. His voice is both commanding and vulnerable simultaneously, with a tone that is instantly recognizable. Given Bogey’s past musical experience, he obviously knows his instrument very well and can perform within in multiple genres. Certainly on Tear, he showcases the softer, more introspective style of delivery, but there is a power lingering under the surface.

From what this reviewer has heard from Tear, Voice In The Attic’s upcoming album should not be missed. Tear is a beautiful, slightly haunting track that full deserves the attention it is bound to receive.
