Twae Left FeetTwae Left Feet is a Boston based celtic duo that plays traditional Irish and Scottish folk songs. Consisting of Galen Fraser (fiddle) and Scott Burn (Bodhran), the duo formed in late 2012 and have been performing regularly in Boston to much acclaim.

“Guess into Frank’s Reel” is a medley of two pieces; “Guess” which was written by Galen Fraser and Scott Burn (aka Twae Left Feet), and “Frank’s Reel,” a traditional Scottish folk tune. The two pieces work incredibly well together, and offer a contrast in tone and pace. The duo play with genuine feeling and you can feel their energy as the song progresses.

“Guess” was written while Fraser and Burn were reminiscing their time spent on the Isle of Skye, and although it is an original tune, it still feels familiar and traditional. “Frank’s Reel” follows as it was one of their favorite pieces to perform while they were touring Scotland. The two tunes work well together and the duo really capture the essence of Scottish folk music throughout both their own composition and the traditional tune in the medley. The duo’s performance feels fresh and they bring something new and contemporary to the traditional sound of Scotland. They are technically very accomplished with Fraser’s fiddle playing ranking amongst the best of today’s players, and Burn’s bodhran providing the perfect rhythmic accompaniment to the melody.

There is something special here; perhaps it’s the simplicity of the instrumentation, or perhaps it’s the mix between the original and traditional. Either way, Twae Left Feet have captured the heart of Celtic folk music, and “Guess Into Frank’s Reel” can sit comfortably within any folk music fan’s collection.
