Singapore Under Attack by Uzi Ellam is a fascinating techno-thriller.
The intensity of latest technology in the story is crisp and
up-to-the-mark. It clearly shows Uzi's clarity and depth of knowledge
and its excellent use in creating this enthralling thriller. In fact,
reader faces a good amount of anxiety right on the first page of the
novel when two bridge cranes, each transporting a 40-foot container
start moving towards each other thus indicating a big mishap at
ultra-modern Port of Singapore’s shipping container terminal. The shift
supervisor in the control room immediately orders his staff to stop the
two cranes moving in each other's direction. Since the whole control
room is automated, in such cases an immediate manual intervention is
important to handle it properly to avoid any serious mishap. Finally,
the two giant sea vehicles stop just a few yards away from each other.
While
the complete routing mechanism comes to manual from automatic thus
bringing the overall throughput of the port to 50%, an investigating
team is analyzing the cause of this close encounter. The software is
working perfectly fine and there is no bug indicating a malfunction of
the automatic routing code. There is a high-level meeting to ascertain
the cause and discuss any risks. Officials from various functions call
it an accidental incident due to an electromagnetic flash causing a
malfunction in the otherwise perfect code. The logic could convince
everybody except Brigadier-General David Rogel who senses a cyber attack
causing the two cranes' collision. All the eyes are set now on Dr.
Gideon Ben Ari who would be arriving at the port in the next few days.
He is coming here with a young Israeli, Dan Avni for understanding and
resolving their civil technology issues.
Ari has a specialization
in advanced technology. Hence, he would be the right person to identify
if this incident was merely an accident or not. In fact, it was
actually a cyber attack. Everybody understands that if this is a cyber
attack, the things will not stop here. Finally, it turns out to be a
cyber attack by the Iranians in Singapore. They were targetting the
Israeli and American embassies to start with. But gradually their
intentions were to cause a chain of disasters leading to global terror.
That is just the beginning of this super-exciting thriller Singapore
Under Attack. Now, it is Gideon and his international task force team
versus a cyber conspiracy by Iranians in Singapore to the turmoil in the
peace of the world.
