Simplifying – 5 Things to Do Today

By Djridings @fivethingsnow

Clutter comes with a cost. That cost is your hard earned money, valuable time, and even your health. You spend money to buy the clutter. You spend the time cleaning it up day after day. And you even spend your health stressing about the money and time lost on your clutter.

1. Recycle one item that is beyond repair. This item can be as small as a plate that has been chipped one too many times to as large as a couch that has no support anymore.
2. Organize the loose papers. From bills, to junk mail, to user manuals – there’s a lot of loose paper in homes. Today, pick one pile and organize it. Decide what is worth holding onto and what can be recycled.
3. Donate one box of unused items. Just one box of spare items that you are no longer using. This can be clothing, toys, even kitchen electronics that were purchased in a whim, and then never used.
4. Pick one corner to declutter. Look around and choose just one corner, or surface, to declutter. This can be your dining room table (currently being used as an office/scrap room/bookshelf) to the chair in the corner (being used as a toy chest/coat holder) to as small as the junk drawer in the kitchen. Remove the items that shouldn’t be there and enjoy the space for what it is really meant for.
5. Spend one hour away from your phone, TV, and computer. Just one hour – that’s not a lot. Use this time to spend with loved ones, read a good book, go for a walk, or just relax. But stay away from your cell phone, house phone, television, and computer for one hour.

Repeat these every day and you are well on your way to simplifying your home, and enjoying a clutter free life. To learn more about simplifying, as well as tips and tricks, check out www.minimalismissimple.com.
