Silent Snake at Big Cypress National Preserve, Florida

The snake stayed in that exact same position for at least 20 minutes–I never saw it move other than flick its tongue out every few seconds,” says my friend Chris Podetz, a non-blogger friend who snapped this amazing photo on a boardwalk in the Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida.  While the snake looks huge in this photo, Chris says it’s because of the angle and the zoom – it’s head is really only about 3 cm (1.18 inches) long.   I’m petrified of snakes, and more of a Cute Monkey Photos kind of a person, but found I couldn’t stop staring at this photo.
