Sikorsky H-34G/S-58T

Vertical Challenge, Hiller Museum Sikorsky S-58T,@ San Carlos Airport, San Carlos, CA

June 2006

Shot with my pre-DSLR Panasonic DMC-FZ30 during the 2006 Vertical Challenge helicopter airshow put on by the Hiller Aviation Museum.  This Sikorsky started life in the Luftwaffe as a H-34G in 1957 before finding its way back to Sikorsky and being upgraded to S-58T configuration and sold to civilian operators for cargo lift operations.  This aircraft was lost in a 2011 accident where the helicopter struck the side of a building during a lift.  The S-58T  is a commercial conversion to turboshaft power using Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6 engines with distinctive twin air intakes in a new nose.  In the late 1980s and early 1990s, S-58T turbine-powered helicopters were operated by New York Helicopters in scheduled passenger airline service between JFK and the NYC heliport.  Panasonic DMC-FZ30, processed with Aperture.
