A Super Stallions from HMH-462 “Heavy Haulers” prepares to return to MCAS Miramar after participating in the 2006 Vertical Challenge helicopter airshow presented by the Hiller Aviation Museum.  The CH-53 first flew in 1974 and is still in service.  The Super Stallion was developed from the CH-53 Sea Stallion, mainly by adding a third engine, adding a seventh blade to the main rotor, and canting the tail rotor 20°.  This is the largest and heaviest helicopter in the United States military.  The 36,000 lift capacity of the Super Stallion allows it to recover aircraft up to its size, which includes all Marine Corps aircraft except for the KC-130.  Panasonic DMC-FZ30 photo.
