Verdict on Signora Volpe Series 2

A Debt of Honour

A Debt of Honour follows Sylvia Fox (Fox) returning home to see her sister Isabel (Fitzgerald). However, a murder in the aftermath of a funeral grabs her attention. Sylvia begins her investigation, while Giovanni Riva (Cirfiera) conducts an official investigation. As the investigation unfolds Sylvia discovers more secrets of the village as she continues to build relationships with the locals.

This is a nice return for the spy turned detective. It gives us a simple enough case to watch solve and gives us a chance to meet the new residents of the village. It has prepared us for the next series of cases without making anything overly complicated. (4/5)

A Deadly Net

A Deadly Net follows Sylvia undercover for a wealthy family. However, a member gets murdered and she must use her connections to the family to uncover the murderer. She works with Captain Riva who leads the investigation, and she learns what the family have plans for the victim.

This episode shows the spy nature of Sylvia’s career and proves how easily she could get involved in the family. It plays out more like a murder mystery rather than a murder in a town, as all the suspects are within one household. This is one of the more interesting episodes in the series and keeps us wanting to know more about the case. (4/5)

Death of a Ghost

Death of a Ghost follows Sylvia getting abducted by someone from her past. Her estranged father and Isabel must put their differences aside to uncover the truth. It involves using more details from her past and Isabel getting to play spy. Meanwhile, Giovanni investigates in his way, which doesn’t offer many leads.

This was a nice episode because it turned the tables on everything. We are used to seeing Sylvia get people out of trouble, but now we see her closest helping her get out of trouble. It is the most intense episode, as we focus more on Sylvia’s past than on an incident which has happened in the small town. This gives us a great ending to the series and keeps you on the edge of your seat. (5/5)

Overall

Signora Volpe Series 2 is a great trilogy of stories. We get three very different cases. One is the small village crime, we are used to. Another feels like a murder mystery weekend and the final one investigates Sylvia’s past. The best way to look at this series is that it has something for everyone. Great performances and great storytelling.

Final ThoughtsSignora Volpe Series 2 is a wonderful series of stories.
