Verdict on Signora Volpe
An Anxious Aunt (D. Dudi Appleton)
An Anxious Aunt follows a British spy Sylvia Fox (Fox) being pushed out by the agency. To deal with the situation, she heads to Italy for her niece’s Alice (Knopfler) wedding. However, on the wedding day, Alice’s fiancée disappears. As Sylvia uses her skills to investigate the disappearance, there becomes a bigger series of events for her to investigate.
This shows the world that Sylvia finds herself in. A type of world she is used to operating in, filled with secrets and mysteries. The deeper she gets, the more she uncovers. Meanwhile, she must deal with her own family drama, which has caused strain between her sister for years now. It is a great start to the series, as it keeps us wondering what will happen next. (4/5).
Secrets & Sacrifices (D. Mark Brozel)
Secrets & Sacrifices follows Sylvia as she has decided to stay in Italy. She meets up with another English woman Mallory Bell (Gallagher) who has been researching a local site. However, she is receiving threatening messages and when they find a body on the grounds, a new mystery presents itself. When Sylvia starts investigating, she learns about an old unsolved crime that caused a stir in the town and now she must figure out what really happened.
This episode shows how Sylvia has started her new life and shows how she can connect with people on another level showing how listening to people can end a conflict in the world. However, the deep mystery has plenty of questions. It does continue to use the location well to show us the beautiful backdrop for the crimes. Even if the mystery isn’t as intense as it looks like it could be for a former spy. (3/5)
Truffles & Treachery (D. Mark Brozel)
Truffles & Treachery follows Sylvia investigating a missing pig in the town. However, that is just a small case. Her ex-husband and former partner Adam Haines (Bamber) arrives in Italy to ask for help. He wants help with a political murder investigation, as a Russian diplomate’s son is accused of murder.
This is the final chapter of the three mysteries for Sylvia to get involved in. It shows how she can get involved with the small cases along with the big cases. She has the ability to work with both and continue to use the beautiful landscape behind everything happening. While it does have a quirky nature, this one does feel like it is longer than it needed to. (2/5)
Overall
Signora Volpe is an entertaining series of mysteries relying on the Italian backdrop. The mysteries are slightly longer than they need to be, which can see bits drag along too much. Emilia Fox is delightful in the leading role and the supporting cast bring plenty to the movie too. We can easily enjoy the episodes, that feel like most of the detective shows we watch. Nothing is overly violent or graphic, which helps give a welcoming feeling to everything.

Final Thoughts – Signora Volpe is a nice easy Sunday evening detective show.
