Every month I am going to be doing a new feature called my monthly must have, which is not just mine, but really something that you must have as well. Something that will make it easier to get engaged, improve your engagement ring or wedding band, help you along the way as a married or engaged couple or help make your wedding or wedding plans easier. Consider this one day a month an all bets are off day as I highlight something that just makes life more enjoyable. And, nothing makes life more enjoyable than a good cocktail, right?
What’s better after a hard day at the office than a good cold cocktail? Other than cocktails on a lounge chair on the beach in Caribbean overlooking the ocean while the sun is setting while I am holding my wife’s hand? Not one thing! Does that sound corny?
As corny as that might sound, my wife and I have a ritual that we started on our first trip and something that we did at our wedding, and that was have signature cocktails. This is a great way to toast your new life and make your celebration memorable for not just you and your-soon-to-be, but all your guests as well.
The Benefits to Mixing It Up
One major benefit of having signature cocktails is that you will save on your bar bill at the wedding. If you only offer up the cocktail of your choice, that you and your honey love to drink, using less expensive mixers and not top shelf alcohol, along with wine and beer, you can save a bundle.
Another idea is that you can print the background of why you chose the drinks or the recipe for the drinks on a chalkboard that sits next to the bar or behind the bar, like a menu, so the guests will get a fun tidbit out of why that particular cocktail is so special to you as a couple.
Instead of the traditional toast with champagne, make the first toast thanking everyone for coming with your signature cocktails and make sure that everyone has one in their hands as well. You can even weave your story about your cocktail into your toast to make it a little more interesting!
On the cocktail napkins print, “Cheers to…. (your names)” and then put the name of the cocktail underneath with a picture of the two of you holding the cocktails in your hand, toasting each other.
Mixing it up puts a twist on the traditional open bar concept and saves you some money and it’s an original and very cute idea!
