Shit Movie of the Day – Jack and Jill

Posted on the 01 November 2012 by Plotdevice39 @PlotDevices

Well today is the day.  It’s the start of the November to Remember and as you can tell, I started off with a softball of a movie, Jack & Jill.  I am already regretting this movie choice because I couldn’t even stand sitting through the trailer and it’s only like 2 minutes long.  Well, we all know Adam Sandler is basically just fucking with us at this point with his movies and the fact that this movie exists, is evidence of this lowest denominator of audience pandering.  I mean did anyone really full on laugh at this trailer and thought, “oh this looks fucking side splitting hilarious”.   God, the fact that this made money is just infuriating and I haven’t even begun to talk about the movie.  So here we go.

Shit Movie of the Day – Jack and Jill

Jack and Jill is a comedy focusing on Jack Sadelstein (Adam Sandler), a successful advertising executive in Los Angeles with a beautiful wife and kids, who dreads one event each year: the Thanksgiving visit of his identical twin sister Jill (also Adam Sandler). Jill’s neediness and passive-aggressiveness is maddening to Jack, turning his normally tranquil life upside down. Katie Holmes plays Erin, Jack’s wife. — (C) Sony Pictures

Fuck this movie.  Just fuck this movie.

I didn’t laugh once during the entirety of this movie.  I found far more amusement at my dog Dexter, trying to catch his tail for like 15 minutes.  Everything of this movie is just loud and annoying.  Sandler apparently believes that yelling and saying his jokes loudly somehow is supposed make the “comedic” moments of this movie funnier, but it doesn’t, it just makes this a futile effort in pandering to the lowest common denominator.

Shit Movie of the Day – Jack and Jill

This movie reminds me of the parody that Funny People did about the character that Adam Sandler plays.  In the movie you see he has posters for shit films that were made to cash in on his fame like the one where he plays a mermaid or the one where he is a baby, but with a grown up sensibility.  Think Little Man from the Wayans brothers sort of thing.  But now I think that those are actual movies that he has in the can and ready to distribute once his latest schlock comes out.

Jack and Jill is a series of comedic tropes that are not even remotely funny in this movie.  Things like having Jill try Mexican food for the first time with the oh so “hilarious” result of her not liking it.  Then there is the whole playing in the park scene where random people are catching the brunt of getting hit with various balls by Jill and her ineptitude is just not even funny.  Hell I would take a nut shot but I feel that seeing it on screen would feel like I got hit in the nuts because of the lack of humor.  It’s just trope after trope after trope and it doesn’t even feel good or original.

Don’t even get me fucking started on the asinine plot point of Al Pacino (so sad) becoming interested in Jill.  Then Jack pimps his sister Jill out to get Pacino to sell a bit more of soul for being in this movie.  I think it was actually to be in an advertisement, probably for this movie marquee so they can grab the Pacino fans for this movie.

Shame on everyone who spent money watching this utterly shit-tastic  movie.  I rented it through my Netflix subscription and I still feel like I need to complain to Netflix to comp my month payment.
