Shifty Shellshock, the singer known for his stage name, passed away at the age of 49. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed that Seth Brooks Binzer, the real name of the singer, died at his Los Angeles residence on Monday, June 24.
According to the statement, the cause of Shifty Shellshock’s death is currently under investigation by the medical examiner and local authorities. However, media reports from The New York Post suggest that Seth Binzer, also known as Shifty Shellshock, struggled with drug addiction.
Reports indicate that the late singer had spent considerable time in rehabilitation facilities. In 2012, Shifty Shellshock was arrested for drug possession and later slipped into a coma that year, but he managed to recover.
Further media coverage states that Shellshock faced legal issues in 2022 and 2023 for driving under the influence of alcohol.
In 1995, Shifty Shellshock co-founded the band Crazy Town with rapper Bret “Epic” Mazur. The group included other members such as Mark White, DJ Rick One, Adam Bravin, and Charles Lopez.
Their debut album “Butterfly,” released in 2000, became a major success, topping charts and gaining widespread acclaim. However, their subsequent album failed to achieve similar success, leading to the band’s eventual breakup. Shifty Shellshock later pursued a solo career, releasing his first solo album “Happy Love Sick,” which achieved moderate success in Europe.
The singer was candid about his personal struggles, appearing on several reality shows to discuss his battle with drug addiction. Shifty participated in two seasons of VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab” and two seasons of “Sober House,” a follow-up show to “Celebrity Rehab.”
