Verdict on Shayda
Shayda is a drama following an Iranian mother trying to escape an abusive relationship with her daughter. However, the legal system keeps her abuser around her child, and she finds a new life difficult to kickstart.
This movie is based on the traumatic experiences director Noora Niasari went through as a child. It shows the difficult measures required to escape abusive relationships as we see how confused Mona is during the journey. Away from Mona’s journey, Shayda herself deals with the need to remain strong for her daughter and the fear the abuser would return. It is a powerful, personal story that shows the difficult decisions a parent could make for a better life for their child. We get wonderful performances from the whole cast with Zar Amir Ebrabimi giving a powerhouse leading performance.
