The Art Deco period was heavily influenced by the exotic styles of far off lands. Because of this, Egyptian and Oriental elements were often incorporated into clothing and accessories that were popular during this time.

Typically made of a delicate fabric like silk, chiffon, or organza, scarves were draped over the shoulders and arms of women when they wanted to remain slightly covered while wearing sleeveless gowns.
