Thoughts on Shattered
Characters & Performances – Chris Decker is still struggling with his divorce, closing himself off from the world in his massive house, living the life of retirement at a young age. He meets Sky and thinks he is about to start a new relationship, before he learns about her true intentions, finding himself trapped in his own home. Sky is the mysterious beautiful woman who comes into Chris’s life, she gives Chris everything he wants to hear, until she makes the move she wanted to do, trapping Chris in his own home, showing what she really wants from him. She shows a dark side that is hidden well in everyday life, prepared for anything that comes her ways. Ronald is the creepy landlord where Sky is currently living, he lets them off because he likes them around. Jamie and Willow are the ex-wife and daughter that Chris is doing the most he can to keep safe in life. Shattered does have strong performances, with Lilly Krug showing us a conflicted unhinged calculated figure. We do get a strange appearance from John Malkovich, which does feel like he would be completely overqualified for though.
Story – The story here will see a rich divorcee find himself getting caught up in a web of lines from a mysterious woman who is looking to make a change to his life, one he isn’t prepared for. Shattered will look to capture many of the unhinged femme fatale movies of the past, going to the easy target of a beautiful woman seducing a rich man to get what she wants from life, showing zero remorse for anything she does to get there. The story will play out in the direction you would imagine, never leaving anything on the table to be left for the guessing side of the story.
Themes – Shattered is a thriller that will show a femme fatale doing her tricks to take advantage of her latest mark, a lonely millionaire she wants to take everything from, it will have moments of her psychotic side. The location used for most of the film is the luxury home, which gets turned into a weapon used by Sky to keep Chris trapped in the home, showing the modern technology can be turned against the user.
Signature Entertainment present Shattered on Digital Platforms 16th May.
Final Thoughts – Shattered is a by the book femme fatale thriller.
