Just outside the realm of hip-hop stands the world of spoken-word poetry (as those who know their history, the art form was the precursor to modern day rap), and I have always been a fan of the best the genre has to offer, so when this new short film by Shane Romero showed up I was happy to find that it is an excellent example of the artform. Romero teamed up with Director Cliff Notez to make Mouse Trap, a short film that confronts the epidemic of gun violence and glorification in the inner city that was inspired by the violent rhymes of the 14 year old Chicago rapper Lil’ Mouse. When spoken-word is done as well as this, it has a power beyond it’s words. Watch below and keep up with Romero’s many tour dates here.
