I am currently in the middle of my second week of going shampoo free. Still sounds a little crazy, but I love it. Two days ago, my mom said, "Your hair looks great, what are you doing differently?" she didn't know about my baking soda, vinegar and tea tree oil regimen. As soon as I told her, she thought it was so gross. I couldn't believe it! But, I guess most people still believe that to get clean, you need harsh sulfates, alcohol and other chemicals in your products. They may clean hair, but they also strip it of natural oils, and can totally dry out your scalp. I wanted to go shampoo free so that I can make my hair healthy, shiny, and hopefully thicker, without the empty promises of chemicals.
So, during the first week, my hair was a mess. It was so greasy, gross, and a little dandruffy. I know, so gross. But I would try my best to hide it all by throwing my hair up in a high top knot and put up one of the headbands i make, and hope to God that no one noticed.
To help combat the dandruff, I added a little olive oil to my apple cider vinegar and water mixture for detailing, and honestly, after the first day, it all went away. I was so nervous to add the olive oil, because my hair was already so greasy, but like 2 days after adding it, my hair started behaving. It stopped being oily, and just became shiny! It is so much fuller, shiny, and healthy looking than when I was using commercial products. Doesn't my mane look so healthy? I am so happy I went shampoo free, and I even purchased a henna hair dye kit, and some Indian herbs online, so that I can keep going shampoo free, and take care of my hair better.
