Seven youths, including the son of a SJB candidate for the Kandy Municipal Council election, have been remanded by the Kandy Police’s crime branch for assaulting and injuring a police officer during a musical show held at the outdoor premises of a star hotel at the Dewana Rajasinghe Mawatha in Kandy.
Police say that among the suspects are the sons of a professor, a doctor and a leading Kandy businessman.
One of the police officer’s arms was dislocated at the elbow and he has undergone an operation at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.
The police have been able to identify the suspects after checking the CCTV footage of the place.
They have been remanded till April 27 after being produced in courts.
