SEM RUSH Tutorial SEO Keyword Research - Link Opportunities for Beginner

If you are new to Semrush, this tutorial will be very helpful because am going to show you how to do some keyword research, how to uncover some niches, how to find link building opportunity, etc, you will really learn a bunch of crazy stuff today.

The first example we are going to look at is a great affiliate SEO niche, I just type in tanning lotion into google, the site below is very easy to spot as an affiliate site because it said review & rating. If you see review & rating in the title tag of home page like the site below, definitely is an affiliate site.

Let uncover the keyword they are after, which one they are ranking for and which one is driving them traffic. Just copy their domain name and go over to semrush and put the domain name in the search box and push search, this tool will tell you the whole information about this site

You can see 23.7k traffic every month for just tanning lotion niche, that is a lot of traffic, you can also see how many backlinks they have. what cool about this tool is that you can see how long it took them to get these traffic, when they started in November 2015 they only get 713 visitors and then jump to December 2015 they got 1,544 visitors, and they skyrocket in January 2016 they got 7,827 visitors. 

So you can have an idea in three months you could be getting over 7,000 organic visitors to your site.

As you scroll down you get to take a look which keyword they are ranking for organically, over 3,922 organic keywords are ranking for that site, that is really cool. And if you click on full report on the right side

You will get a list of every single organic keyword they are ranking for and how much traffic is driving, on the left you will see the keyword they are ranking for and on the right side is their position on google, how much volume they get per month, cost per click, and lot more.

Now if are studying a big site like these, well is not actually a big site, you can get an affiliate idea by building your own big site, just you go over to the Advanced filters feature, keyword >> select number of words and Equal >> select Greater than, in the box put 3, then push Apply

What we are looking to do here is filter their keyword that is ranking for them, that are long tail. Now we have all the keyword that are 3 - 4 words base on search volume.

With all that long tail keyword, we can actually build a mini niche affiliate site for it, you can export all these keywords. What is also great about semrush is that on the right side you can see a trend per keyword, if the keyword is new you can understand how that would be useful.

Let take a look at their backlink, where are they getting their link from, what we are looking for is a visible link we can grab, so they have 305 index link according to semruch, just click on referring domain. You will get a list of all the domain that are linking to them 

If you see a domain that does make sense or directory site for your industry, you can click the button as seen below, and it gonna open that up, you can actually see is a directory site, so you can probably go ahead and add your affiliate site to get a similar backlink.

You can also check what Anchors text are they using, just to get an idea on what you should do.

That is basically how you get a map on what your competitor are doing and what you will need to do to also rank similarly to competition on the first page.
