Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is quite a challenge. As a FromSoftware game, this is normal. But really, you'll probably need all the help you can get. Unlike Souls games, you cannot summon other players to help you, so you will have to improve on your own. Vendors you meet on your adventure can help, provided you have some sen (money) on hand. There are a handful of items you can buy that you should definitely pick up before others.
These are the best items to buy from sellers Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Like dark souls, Sekiro has the always important gourd. When Wolf drinks from the Healing Item, some of his health is restored. You get the gourd after the intro section. At first, you can only have one drink before everything is gone. To fill it, you have to go to an idol sculptor for a nap.
You can spread your gourd with gourd seeds. Gourd Seeds can be acquired by defeating powerful enemies, and we've also found them in chests. Sometimes the vendors will have squash seeds to sell for a whopping 1000 sen.
Trust us when we say the high price is worth it. Once you have a Gourd Seed, you can take it to Emma outside the Dilapidated Temple (or wherever it's marked after moving). It will widen your gourd to allow you to take an additional drink. It goes without saying that having more opportunities to heal and stay alive during boss-boss fights is vitally important.
So, whenever a salesperson is ready to part with that precious item, spend time accumulating sen.
Rice / Fine snow

Sometimes using the gourd for healing is not the most effective strategy as you have to stop and sit down during the drinking animation. When you are struck by a tough enemy, stopping to heal is not advisable. A great alternative is rice, which serves as a quick item that restores health over time. It is similar to Pellets in this regard, but the rice recovers a lot more health. The recommended strategy is to consume rice before a fight with a tough enemy, or in the middle of the battle if possible.
The upside is that it will gradually heal you over time, making some of those difficult encounters with enemies a bit easier. You can only wear one at a time, but even still, rice is a great plan B when things start to get hairy.
You can acquire it from the Divine Child of Rejuvenation at Senpou Temple on Mt. Kongo. Keep visiting the Divine Child to learn more when you run out. Additionally, after completing the Return of the Divine Child's Dragon quest, you can request that your rice be turned into Fine Snow - an upgraded version that increases your health even faster.
Wallet

The purses are available in three variations: light, heavy and domed. Light purses have a capacity of 100 sen, a heavy hold of 500, and a bulge hold of 1000. Each of them actually costs more than the amount of sen they hold. For example, it will cost you 550 sen to buy a heavy wallet. The investment is worth it. Death cuts your sen in half, and unless you are ridiculously good, you will die a lot. Your sen can keep halving until you have virtually nothing left during the fight to defeat a boss.
However, death does not affect your wallets. They are stored as an item and only add to your sen when opened. For this reason, you don't want to open them until you are ready to make a purchase (like on Gourd Seeds). A good rule of thumb to follow is that every time you meet a seller, unless you are buying something else, swap your sen for the number of wallets you can buy.
Upgrade materials

Vendors also sometimes offer upgrade material for your Shinobi prosthesis. One of the first ones you can buy, Robert's Firecrackers, is extremely useful in boss fights and when battling animals like wolves. Robert's Firecrackers turn into Shinobi Firecracker when given to the Old Man in the Dilapidated Temple. It will enhance your prosthesis to give you access to a movement that produces an explosive flash. Enemies caught in its wake will be temporarily blinded, immobilized, and will take posture damage. Whether it's battling packs of wolves or taking on a ruthless general, the Shinobi Firecracker can help get you on the right track.
Spiritual emblems

To use prosthetic moves like Shinobi Firecracker and Shuriken, you must have Spirit Emblems. Spirit Emblems aren't actually purchased from vendors, but they're important enough to be mentioned here anyway. They cost 10 sen and you can hold up to 15 at a time. Any excess Spirit Emblems you own will be used to replenish the 15 when you rest in a Sculptor's Idol, where you purchase them.
You always want to keep your spiritual emblems full. Each prosthetic movement uses spiritual emblems. A shuriken throw uses one, while more intensive moves like the Shinobi Firecracker cost three. Get in the habit of checking your current stock at each Sculptor Idol and buying as needed.
Dragon blood drop

Using Resurrection in battle gives you another chance to win, but it comes at a price. Resurrect too many times and you can get an item called Essence of Rot. This is not an item you want, as it decreases your invisible help percentage. Unseen Aid is the chance that you do not lose meaning and experience after death. Essence of Rot also afflicts an NPC with a disease called Dragonrot. While you are sick, you cannot complete their plots. The essence of decay can be found in key items. You will inevitably accumulate a few or more of these unfortunate items.
Later in the game, you can take a blood sample from someone dealing with Dragonrot. This will help Emma create a cure, giving you a healing charm and a drop of dragon blood. These items will allow you to heal everyone with Dragonrot at Sculptor's Idols. The Salvage Charm will last forever, but the Dragon's Blood Drop won't. You can purchase this important item from vendors for 180 sen.
Acquire sen

If you are looking to find loose coins, you can search for hidden purses all over the world. However, for a consistent source of sen you will need to get it from your enemies. Killing an enemy will (usually) result in a glowing corpse, and when you stand on top of it you can hold Square / X to get their sen back.
In the heat of battle, you might be so focused on conquering your enemies that you can't remember an essential step for achieving game-wide triumph: gathering sen. You have to remember to accumulate sen to have enough to get you through the game, and you can increase your volume by taking sen from your enemies. If your sen reserves get too low, you can reset enemies and regain their sen multiple times.
Resting at a Sculptor's Idol gives you the chance to respawn your enemies. Each will take the same position as the previous battle, no matter how many times you repeat the process. Every common enemy will respawn, but not the generals.
Another way to earn promotion is to sell the items you find to vendors. A smart strategy would be to trade unnecessary items like Fistful of Ash for sen. Simply go to any supplier to gift your goods and reap the benefits.
