Recorded above a train station complete with birdsong, rumbles and ethereal soundscapes, Second Hand Poet’s ‘I’ll Be Yours’ follows the Surrey singer-songwriter’s highly acclaimed debut mini album ‘Songs for the Pyre’.
With influences including Phoebe Bridgers, Elliott Smith and Bon Iver, this heartfelt song finds SHP revealing his inner thoughts as he opens up about his battles with demons and ponders befriending the darkness inside him before ‘falling in’. There are gently soaring strings as ‘you’ve been the answer when I’m running from it all, chasing all my worries away. You were chasing all my worries away. You rescue me.’ It’s a quietly powerful song that will strike a chord with many and reminds us of Luke Sital-Singh, especially when SHP reveals: ‘I could cancel all my problems with cigarettes and wine’.
