It is past midnight in New York and Washington, DC, and in the evenings in Los Angeles, but large crowds are still on the streets of both cities, and spirits are high.

At New York, Protesters march through Greenwich Village in downtown Manhattan. The curfew was at 8 p.m., but there is no strong police presence tonight, and police have not enforced the curfew with arrests like earlier this week.

Protesters have been walking for hours now. Some organizers and leaders maintain morale with calls and responses such as "Do not commit, we are united, we are peaceful" and "United, the people will never be defeated".

"The system is not going to win," a protester told CNN. "People have a voice now and they listen to us. They listen to us because we are united. They listen to us because things like that are happening in the middle of Manhattan, where thousands and thousands of people don't let injustice happen. "

In Washington, DC, the crowds are massive tonight - perhaps the largest since the start, said CNN correspondent Alex Marquadt at the scene.

The curfew was lifted earlier this week and the protests remain peaceful. People gather at the edge of Lafayette Park, near the White House, taking photos with a new street sign that reads "Black Lives Matter Plaza".

There are members of law enforcement and the National Guard in sight - but far from the aggressive numbers seen earlier in the week, said Marquadt.

In Los Angeles, the curfew has also been lifted and the protests remain peaceful, with the bright atmosphere tonight.

The walkers, who are at least 1,000, are diverse, said CNN reporter Lucy Kafanov at the scene. She described seeing "members of the Asian community, the Latin American community, white people, black people, LGBTQ people, everyone."

"The community atmosphere is truly remarkable," she said. "There are a lot of people walking around distributing snacks, masks, hand sanitizer, food for the protesters ... One of the nice things on a human level that we have seen is, in Passing various buildings on their balconies, start clapping pots and pans in solidarity with the protest. "
