With $1.2 million in prizes up for grabs, blockchain platform Tron has begun the third season of its 2022 Grand Hackathon.
Six tracks are available to developers, including two all-new ones. New Ecosystem and Academy tracks have been added to the previous hackathon’s DeFi, GameFi, NFT, and Web3 tracks.
Students participating in the Academy track will gather in a designated “hacker house” to work on their ideas during an in-person mini-hackathon.
The Ecosystem track, on the other hand, is this season focused on luring Ethereum projects to the Tron ecosystem.
According to DeFi Llama, Tron is now, by total value locked (TVL), the second-largest decentralized finance (DeFi) blockchain after Ethereum. Dave Uhryniak, Director of Ecosystem Development at TRON DAO, is anticipating welcoming Ethereum projects that are “looking to expand their reach” to the blockchain.
The work from past Tron hackathons is continued on four tracks. The Web3 track is looking for contributions that will assist hasten the transition to the decentralized web, while the DeFi track wants to reward creative DeFi solutions that make financial services available to billions of people.
The GameFi track will honor initiatives developing the upcoming blockbuster game concept that fuses blockchain technology and fun. Additionally, the NFT track is searching for creative, fresh uses for non-fungible tokens.
In this season’s hackathon, there are two categories of voting: judge voting and community voting. There will be different reward amounts for each category.
Professional judges and the public will vote on the projects in the DeFi, GameFi, NFT, and Web3 tracks to see which ones should win. Winners chosen by the judges will get $60,000 for first place and $50,000 for second place. The projects that came in third, fourth, and fifth will get $40,000, $30,000, and $20,000, respectively. The winners of the Academy track projects will get an award of $15,000 for first place and $10,000 for second place. The projects that came in third, fourth, and fifth will get $9,000, $8,000, and $7,000, respectively. Also, each of the five projects that get “honorable mention” will get $1,000.
Over 1,800 people took part in the last hackathon. With two new tracks and a $1.2 million prize pool, Uhryniak expects “lots of talented projects” to join this one. To apply to take part in the third season of the Tron Grand Hackathon, go to Trondao.org.
